Legendary lady of the Blues, Big Maybelle, is having her story told in Broadway fashion with the new musical Big Maybelle: Soul of the Blues. The show will enjoy a run at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor, New York, next month. A report by Broadway.com details the production, which stars Tony winner Lillias White. According to the article, the show features 31 songs, including “Big Maybelle’s Blues, “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” and others. Officials with the play are hoping to get the show an official Broadway run in 2013. The Sag Harbor run of shows will be held August 7-September 2, 2012.

Alligator Records officials report Curtis Salgado’s cancer surgery was successful, and doctors expect the Soul Blues artist to make a complete recovery. Curtis Salgado will remain in the hospital for roughly a week afterward to begin his recovery. He will reportedly be sidelined for up to a month, after that, and is hoping to get back on the road as soon as possible.
