Officials in the state of Tennessee are injecting $1.5-million in grant money into the Memphis area, with a portion of that funding set aside to honor Blues history. The transportation grants were announced by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, and will provide nearly $286,000 toward the Memphis Blues Trail.
The Memphis Blues Trail project was created to recognize and promote Tennesse’s Blues history, especially in Memphis. Officials report the project will make physical improvements to an 11-mile section of Highway 61 that runs from the Mississippi state line to Crump Boulevard. Improvements will consist of trail markers, art installations, and what are being called blues music crosswalks, as well as additional improvements.
