full-time-blues-birthdayFull-Time Blues Radio first hit the airwaves on June 7, 2008. What began as a way for “Johnny Full-Time” to play some of his favorite Blues and get some more experience as a professional radio personality, has evolved into a weekly destination for Blues fans to find music, news, and interviews that you can’t hear anywhere else. We’ve heard endless hours of music over the year, and it’s incredibly difficult to boil all of that down to one, 59-minute episode; but I feel like this episode flows really well and features many of the best aspects from the show’s brief history.

There are many people who helped me get to this point, and I couldn’t keep doing the show every week without the support of listeners and fans. Thank you for spreading the word and spreading the love. Thank you to my wife for being supportive and allowing me to miss certain events. Thank you to my family for investing love and money into the show. Thanks to WUEV for giving us a place to start and a flagship after the move to Louisville. Thanks to KPVL for joining the family. Thanks to the River Basin, Indiana, and Kentuckiana Blues Societies.

Thank You – for visiting this site, for sharing the show, and most importantly – for listening.

Classic Performance Video by Koko Taylor Below This Story!
A Gainseville, Florida cultural center is unveiling a new way to experience Blues music that incorporates art, history and music. The Thomas Center is hosting a new interactive exhibit through September 7, 2013 called “Blues Pioneers and Their Progeny.” This exhibit revolves around 40 paintings of Blues legends, including Robert Johnson, B.B. King, Koko Taylor and more. This artwork was produced by one man simply known as Ty the Portrait Guy.

In addition to the art, organizers have crafted a full experience for visitors by adding short biographies on each Blues legend’s life and career. What’s more – using an app on your smartphone, visitors can interact with the exhibit by listening to songs by each of these artists!

Thomas Center officials noted in a news report that the exhibit is less of a history of the Blues, and more of a way for folks to hear some of the genre’s greatest artists – and hopefully explore the catalog of music further, on their own. The exhibit is open to the public, and you can Click Here for the Exhibit’s Official Website.

2013 Handy Festival LogoThe WC Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival is a huge annual event held in Henderson, Kentucky. The festival holds a special place in my heart, because when I founded this radio show, the organizers of the Handy Fest were very encouraging of my efforts to keep the Blues alive. They even asked me to emcee the event a couple years ago. The WC Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival is one of the best organized events held each year, and draws fans from across the globe. Artists speak highly of the crew, the fans, and constantly ask to come back and play on a regular basis.

With all of that said, this week’s episode of Full-Time Blues Radio takes a look at the 2013 edition of the festival by playing music from nearly all of the bands set to perform. Another reason that this festival means so much to me is that they understand the importance of supporting new and independent Blues artists and bands. You’ll see local and regional acts on the same stage with up-and-coming stars from other areas, as well as the established hit-makers of today, and legendary names in the genre.

I hope you enjoy this episode of FTB Radio, and I hope our paths cross at this year’s WC Handy Blues & Barbecue Festival! – Johnny Full-Time Click Here for complete details at HandyBlues.org
