John-Alex Mason died unexpectedly last year at the young age of 35. His death was so unexpected that it shook the Blues community, who immediately sent a wave of love and support to John-Alex’s wife and kids.
That Blues community is banding together again to produce Homeward Bound, a tribute album featuring 13 original songs by artists like Big George Brock, Cedric Burnside Project, and others. The album has been crafted on a 100% voluntary basis, but now fans are being asked to help in order to get the CDs pressed. Organizers have created a page on micro-funding website IndieGoGo, where fans can make a secure donation.
The donation helps on multiple levels. It is essentially a pre-order, ensuring your receipt of a copy of either the digital download or physical CD (depending on your level of giving.) The goal of contributions is to get the physical CDs manufactured, but more importantly, dollars raised above the pressing cost go into an endowment for John-Alex Mason’s children. Finally, donations are tax deductable, thanks to the efforts of Memphis attorney Michael Working, who handled the painstaking process to establish a non-profit.
Levels of giving begin at $10.00, which gets you the digital download. $20.00 gets you the physical CD. Anything $50.00 or above nets you the CD, along with a limited poster of original art by Gary Houston.
