The Blues community is coming together again, this time in support of Kid Ramos, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. In addition to prayers, well-wishes, and expressions of support and encouragement, there have also been a large amount of benefit efforts organized in response to Kid’s diagnosis.
Doctors have said that Kid’s got Ewing’s sarcoma, a rare form of cancer typically found in children. Kid will undergo both radiation and chemotherapy, according to Randy Chortkoff. A ton of benefit concerts have been organized. Bob Corritore has been an amazing source of news throughout the last few weeks, and you can find out details on the benefit concerts at his website. The Southwest Musical Arts Foundation will release a CD, called The Kid Ramos/Bob Corritore Phoenix Blues Sessions that will see all proceeds from sales donated to Kid in an effort to help offset medical costs. The album will have an initial run of only 1,000 copies pressed. It features some of the best recordings from four recording sessions that Kid Ramos and Bob Corritore had in the 1990s with Henry Gray, Nappy Brown, Big Pete Pearson, Chief Schabuttie Gilliame, and Chico Chism. An exact release date is yet to be determined, but the album is expected to be available in mid to late October. Stay tuned to this website and Full-Time Blues Radio episodes for updates as they become available.
Kid Ramos’ family at Delta Groove Productions has established a medical fund, and they’re asking folks who can help to “Chip In!” ChipIn is a secure way to make donations to a variety of causes, and a goal has been set at $10,000. Organizers are already over halfway there, and you can get complete information, and donate, by Clicking Here
