In keeping with that theme, the featured selection from inside “Johnny’s Mailbox” this week is a cover of Ray Charles by Blues legend Roosevelt Sykes. Roosevelt Sykes was a Bluesman known as The Honeydripper. he was active from the 1920’s until he passed away in 1983. He was known for performing Blues standards such as “44 Blues,” “Driving Wheel,” and an early version of “Night Time is the Right Time.”

Blind Pig Records has released a brand new Roosevelt Sykes album titled The Original Honeydripper. This album is a live recording from 1977 and features Roosevelt Sykes performing to an eager crowd. The album is available on compact disc, but is not available for digital download. Since that is the case, I’d encourage you to go out to your local independent record retailer and pick up a copy. If you’d rather get it online, though, you can purchase it directly from Blind Pig Records or on digital retail giants like Amazon.com. Your purchase on Amazon does help this radio show, as we get a very small percentage when you purchase through this link.
