This week’s shift inside the Home for New & Independent Blues Music has a little bit of everything. There are established stars like Eden Brent and Savoy Brown, self released albums from Dave Sadler and The Harpoonist & the Axe Murderer, a couple live tunes, some amazing guitar tracks and killer harmonica work. You’ll hear great original songwriting, as well as choice covers, and a tribute to one of the all time great Blues men!

The Whereabouts are a band of Irish teenagers inspired by 50’s and 60’s Rock N Roll legends. You can hear them cover Bo Diddley’s “Road Runner” on this week’s show. You can also watch one of their official music videos below this week’s playlist.

The featured selection from inside “Johnny’s Mailbox” is “Mean Old World” by the Empire Roots Band. The band consists of Dave Keyes (piano), Woody Mann (guitar), Bill Sims, Jr. (vocals), and Brian Glassman (bass.) The four men came together to celebrate the music of Reverend Gary Davis and record the official soundtrack to the movie Harlem Street Singer. This film is a brand new documentary on the life of Rev. Gary Davis, featuring archival performance footage, music, and interviews with artists like John Hammond, Bob Weir, and Jorma Kaukonen.

Harlem Street Singer is currently traveling the film festival circuit, but the soundtrack from the Empire Roots Band is available now. The album features 11 covers of Reverend Gary Davis songs performed by this incredible super group. You can find full details on the film, and watch the trailer at HarlemStreetSinger.com
