Listen: Episode 1620

Rock, Soul, Country – while they’re all genres in their own right – they are all elements that influence various subgenres within the Blues. They are all represented in this week’s edition of FTB Radio, as well. 7 of the 12 songs here come from albums that just arrived to our studios.

The featured selection from inside “Johnny’s Mailbox” is “Healin’ Touch” by John Long. The song comes off his new album Stand Your Ground, which is available now from Delta Groove Music. John was born in St. Louis, but like many of the pillars of the genre, he moved to Chicago in order to play the Blues. While he was in the windy city, John sat at the foot of the learning tree under Homesick James. Mr. Long soaked up every ounce of knowledge he could get from the man whom he considered a surrogate father.

Stand Your Ground features 13 songs, most of which are original compositions written by Long. He also covers Blind Willie Johnson, Willie McTell, and Homesick James on the record. John Long is a singer, songwriter, guitarist and harmonica player, and all of those talents are front and center throughout this album.
